McCain's Ongoing Spat with Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton's response to McCain's ad has already caused such a stir that McCain's camp has had to issue a response of its own.  As documented at Open Left:

Due to the extraordinary number of inquiries, please see our campaign's response to Paris Hilton's recently released video in which she puts forward her version of an energy plan:

"It sounds like Paris Hilton supports John McCain's 'all of the above' approach to America's energy crisis - including both alternatives and drilling.  Paris Hilton might not be as big a celebrity as Barack Obama, but she obviously has a better energy plan." ---Tucker Bounds, spokesman John McCain 2008

Matt Stoller and Chris Bowers both view this as a huge problem for McCain because now his clever little attack ad has caused him to get into a public and ongoing spat with Paris Hilton, of all people.  His campaign has devolved into an Extra! featurette.

How this petty petty man has a 62% favorable according to the July 29th Gallup poll is shocking.

I mean, I like a few mumblers and bumblers myself, though I don't want them to be president.  Maybe it's the same idea.

Seriously, what kind of presidential campaign responds to the slings and arrows of Paris Hilton, especially since they brought her up to begin with...I mean how ridiculous can you get and why are so many Americans so accepting

Re: McCain's Ongoing Spat with Paris Hilton (2.00 / 1)

I don't know, but that's the type of campaign that I would want to run against.  Obama should just keep saying at some point in his speeches, "While my opponent is getting in fights with the Hiltons, I'm trying to solve the issues that matter to America," or some such (maybe he should clear it with the Hiltons first, though - we don't want a Paris Hilton attack ad of our own).

Yeah, I like the way the ad hits him over and over for his age and ties it to his ability to lead.

It's like the perfect attack dog - not part of the party at all, so able to say what everybody's thinking.

And imagine, the poor old bumbler brought it on himself.

What does this say about the McCain Campaign when they issue a press release with the following title:

Paris Hilton Supports Drilling

They must have watched the video, too.

Actually, that was unrelated to the video.

Are we talking about the same video?

Yeah, I was just making a poorly formed joke.
