McCain: Abandoning IN?

This seems to be a, dare I say it, PRESUMPTUOUS move.  While Obama plans to open 25-30 offices in Indiana, McCain plans to open ... not a single one.  According to the Indianapolis Star:

Jonathan Swain, a spokesman for Obama's campaign in Indiana, said plans are to have 25 to 30 campaign offices in the state.

...

McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, is taking a different approach to Indiana.

Some might call it confident; some might call it laid-back at best.

Asked whether the campaign has any plans to open an office in Indiana, campaign spokeswoman Leah Yoon -- who is based in Michigan, not Indiana -- had a one-word answer: "No."

Granted, Indiana is not traditionally in play for Democrats at the presidential level, but should McCain really be so confident about his chances there?  Were Obama to win Indiana, he would virtually be assured to win the presidency.

In Light of This... (2.00 / 2)

Does it make sense to go with Bayh for a potential knockout blow?

Re: In Light of This... (2.00 / 1)

Only if he can guarantee Indiana.  Bayh is Blah...However, maybe that's what the campaign is looking for.

I would much rather see a grinder in that position...Give me Clark, HRC, Biden or Dodd...IMO

Re: In Light of This... (none / 0)

While Bayh wouldn't be my first choice, as that seat would eventually go back to red without his presence, I can say that, as a Hoosier, many of us would like to amend for Dumb Danny Quayle.

In other words, I do think Bayh could deliver the state, if it's already close.

No way. No how. No McCain.

I think McCain's attitude is that (2.00 / 1)

if he has to defend states such as Indiana, North Dakota, Georgia, and North Carolina, he has lost anyway.  He probably believes that those states are so red that they will stay red regardless of what Obama does.

However, McCain has succumbed to the pressure of Virginia and is opening offices there and will later open offices in Montana.  He is giving Obama his due in Missouri by spending a ton of money on ads in the bellweather state.  McCain is treating Florida (hasn't spent a dime on ads) the same way that Obama is treating Pennsylvania (hasn't visited once since primaries ended).

And no, it's worth it to put Bayh on the ticket.

Gah!?!  The McCain website, "victory offices"???  Well, 8 is still a lot less than 20 (with possible expansion up to 60, right?).

Re: McCain: Abandoning IN? (none / 0)

he's either given indiana up or he's mega confident that it'll stay red. I dont like to give McCain too much credit, so Im gonna say he's mega confident/arrogant and outright oblivious to the fact that he's gonna have to work to win this.

third option (2.00 / 1)

They don't have enough funds and volunteers to compete on the ground in all 50 states. Obama's campaign is going to bleed them dry, and this is how.

Not quite accurate.... (none / 0)

His campaign has a telephone number we can call.  And he has a volunteer spokesperson in the state.  Woot!
